IWC Introduces The Ingenieur Automatic Edition “Laureus Sport for Good Foundation” (With Pricing)
IWC has just unveiled the Ingenieur Automatic Edition “Laureus Sport for Good Foundation”, the 2015 edition of its annual limited edition conceived to raise funds for the Laureus foundation. For almost a decade and through nine Laureus editions, IWC has supported the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, a charity that aims to encourage sports amongst children in poor countries that has IWC’s parent Richemont and Daimler as key sponsors. The latest edition in the series is the Ingenieur Automatic Edition “Laureus Sport for Good Foundation”, an entry-level Ingenieur wristwatch fitted with the signature metallic blue dial of the Laureus editions.
Dial aside, the Ingenieur Automatic Laureus has another feature common to all the editions, which have included a Yacht Club Chronograph, a solid case back decorated with an engraving of the child’s drawing that won a worldwide competition organised by the Laureus foundation. Open to children and teenagers, the most recent contest was won by Nakayenga Zahara from Uganda, with a drawing of cheerleaders that has been reproduced on the back of the Ingenieur Automatic Laureus.
Zahara’s home country demonstrates the Laureus foundation’s workings in using sports as a tool to improve conditions in disadvantaged places. Sporting events are used to draw people in, and the half-time breaks are platforms to provide education about HIV/AIDS, a disease that plagues Uganda. Aside from the dial and case back, the watch is identical to the standard Ingenieur Automatic. The case is steel with a diameter of 40 mm, fitted with a soft iron cage inside to protect the Sellita automatic movement from magnetism.
Limited to 1500 pieces, the Ingenieur Automatic Laureus is priced at S$9300 (including 7% tax), $900 more than the regular production model. Part of the proceeds from the sale of every watch goes to the Laureus foundation.
